Zhang Jian


Dr. Jian (Ronald) Zhang is a Supervisor of Master in the School of Transportation at Southeast University (SEU) in Nanjing, China. He is the executive vice director of the Research Center for Internet of Mobility, Southeast University. Dr. Zhang is currently serving as a member of the expert committee of Intelligent Drive and Intelligent Traffic of the National Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Center, and he is also a senior engineer of Connected Vehicle, and a member of ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers), CoE-SUFS (Center of Excellence for Sustainable Urban Freight Systems), IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers), SESC (Systems Engineering Society of China), TRB (Transportation Research Board), CHTS (China Highway & Transportation Society), etc.


Dr. Zhang received a B.S. degree in Applied Mathematics from SEU in 2006 and a Ph.D. degree from SEU in Transportation Engineering in 2011, respectively. From 2009 to 2010, he visited University of Wisconsin at Madison as a visiting scholar supported by the China Scholarship Council Postgraduate Scholarship Program. After he attained his Ph.D. degree, he worked as a research assistant in Research Center for Internet of Mobility from 2011 to 2012 and was enrolled in Southeast University as a faculty member in the School of Transportation in April 2012.


Dr. Zhang’s recent research interests and areas include: Connected Automated Vehicle Highway (connected vehicles’ traffic flow analysis, modeling and control, vehicle-infrastructure coordination, internet of vehicles, intelligent driving), Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Big Data Analysis and Traffic Application (Location Based Service, LBS), Public Transit Scheduling, Traffic Information Technology and Platform System Design for Internet of Things (highway traffic operation based on big data, Intelligent Highway), Traffic Planning based on Big Data, Dynamic Traffic System Analysis, Modeling, Simulation and Control, etc.


In these areas, Dr. Zhang has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers. He has been actively involved in more than twenty research projects (such as 973 Project, 863 Project, and National Natural Science Foundation) and thirty consulting projects. As the leading PI, Dr. Zhang has directed more than 7 research projects, including two National Natural Science Foundation Projects and one National Key R&D Program.
